SCALE 5
SYSTEMIC HYPERACIDITY
EXPLANATION
Maintaining a proper acid-alkaline
(pH) balance is emphasized in the Cayce health
information. Particularly, Edgar Cayce noted that
high systemic acidity either causes or contributes to many
health problems, including diabetes and arthritis. The items on this scale are based
on 133 readings which mention "superacidity" as
an etiological factor.
High systemic acidity is often
caused by eating a diet containing too much acid producing
foods such as sweets and meats. Stress is another
factor which can increase acidity. Improper food
combinations (such as eating grains and citrus at the same
meal) can result in high acidity. Natural treatment for
arthritis, diabetes and cancer uses this understanding.
THERAPEUTIC
OPTIONS
DIET
The primary therapy for high acidity
is diet. Edgar Cayce recommended that 80% of the
diet be alkaline producing foods (mostly fruits and
vegetables). See acid-alkaline table for
listings of which foods are alkaline and acid in their
reaction in the body. Reading 1451-7 specifically
listed "sweets, bananas, tomatoes, and corn" as
being superacid foods. Whether this is a general
statement or specifically for that individual is not
known.
EATING HABITS
One of the common contributing
causes of high acidity is improperly masticated foods.
Take time to chew all foods and mix thoroughly with
saliva. Edgar Cayce suggested that we even
"chew" our liquids.
GLYCO-THYMOLINE
Glyco-thymoline is a highly alkaline
mouth wash that can be used to alkalize the system.
Two or three drops in a glass of water taken three or four
times each day can decrease high acidity.
BAKING SODA
Baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
dissolved in water is a simple way of decreasing high
acidity.
LIMEWATER WATER
When hyperacidity presents with
acute acid indigestion, limewater added to milk or juice
may serve as a useful antacid. Standard dosage is
one teaspoonful of limewater to a pint of milk or to a cup
of juice with each meal.
